Trekking to Simien Mountains National Park ( Tour Code: GTT 03 Duration 13 Days)

Day 1: Arrival Addis Ababa 

Up on arrival at Bole international air port and met by Ghion Travel and Tours representatives and transfer to hotel. After check in to hotel, you will have a city tour of Addis. It includes; National Museum, the home of the famous complete hominid fossil remain of Lucy dates 3.2 million years back, Mount Entoto, panoramic view point at the highest peak in Addis with an altitude of 3200 meter above sea level, Trinity Cathedral, a beautiful church with a baroque style of European architecture unique to both Ethiopia and Africa, Ethnographic Museum and Merkato (the largest open air market in Africa). Overnight in your hotel

Day 2: Addis- Gondar 

Morning, transfer in to airport to fly to Gondar, which was one of the hidden cities of the foreign trade area in the 17th century AD. Gondar is the site of ancient castle building palaces of different emperors constructed in the European middle age architectural style. After check-in to hotel visit the curious symbiosis of Ethiopian and Portuguese architectural representation of the Royal Enclosure which is also known as" the Camelot of Africa", the iconic church of Debre-Birehan-Selassie, bath of king Fasilledes which still in use for the colorful celebration of Ethiopian epiphany (Timket). Overnight in your Hotel

Day 3: Gondar- Sankaber 

Morning drive to Sankaber and continue your first trek about 3to 4hours through cultivated areas. Overnight stay will be camping around Senkaber. 

Day 4: Sankaber- Geech 

Trek about 6 to 7 hours to Geech through meadows and forests and some cultivated areas. Here you may meet your first trop of Gelada Baboons around Sanka ber. Walk to the edge of the abuse to see Walia Ibex. At Geech there is a toilet and a convenient nearby water fall for washing. Overnight stay will be camping. 

Day 5: Geech- Chenek 

Trek about 5 to 6 hours. Here you will pass a spot known as Kibran Metia, just before arrival to Chenek; it provides stunning views of the lowlands below and the escarpment edge to the west. There is a fast running stream about five minutes walk south of Chenek camp. Lammergeyers are often seen here. Chenek is probably the best spot in the Simien Mountains for wild life. Overnight stay will be camping. 

Day 6: Chenek- Ambikwa 

Trek about 9 to 10 hours from Chenek to Ambikwa following a track that leads you to the south east of Chenek. Here you will have a good viewpoint on the eastern escarpment near the Ambikwa camping spot. Overnight stay will be camping. 

Day 7: Ambikwa- Maje 

Trek for about 9 to 10 hours from Ambikwa to Ras Dashen and returning back to Maje. Here you will have a stream river near the Maje camping spot. Overnight stay will be camping. 

Day 8: Maje- Arkwasiye 

Trek for about 9 to 10 hours from Maje to Arkwasiye via Mentaber. Overnight stay will be camping. 

Day 9: Arkwasiye- Ansiya 

Trek about 7 to 8 hours from Arkwasiye to Ansiya riverside via Sona, a spot where you meet after 3hours trek. Overnight stay will be camping. 

Day 10: Ansiye- Hawaza 

Trek about 7 to 8 hours from Ansiya to Hawaza. Overnight stay will be camping at Hawaza. 

Day 11: Hawaza-Adi-Arkay-Axum 

Trek about 3to 4 hours from Hawaza to Adi-Arkay. After taking a break in Adi-Arkay, drive to Axum showcases the immensely beautiful Simien Mountain massifs and the peoples who eke out an existence in this unforgiving countryside. The drive continues through the Tekeze valley, crossing the Tekeze River, and onto Axum In the far north. Overnight in your hotel 

Day 12: Axum 

The ancient city of Axum is found close to Ethiopia's northern border. It marks the location of the heart of ancient Ethiopia, when the Kingdom of Axum was the most powerful state between the Eastern Roman Empire and Persia. The archaeological and historical attractions in Axum include: the archaeological museum, monolithic steles, the tombs of King Kaleb and King Gebre Meskal, and the legendary Bath of the Queen of Sheba, and the ruins of ancient palace of Queen Sheba. You also visit the new and the old Cathedral of St Mary of Zion and the sanctuary that houses the original Arc of the covenant. The 16th Century Cathedral of St Mary of Zion was probably built on an earlier 4th century church, and is the holiest church in Ethiopia. In its sanctuary is said to rest the original Ark of the Covenant. Overnight in your hotel

Day 13: Axum- Addis- Departure

 Morning, transfer in to airport to fly back to Addis Ababa. In the afternoon, you will have leisure and shopping time. In the evening, farewell traditional dinner in one of the best restaurant in Addis followed by folkloric dance of different Ethiopian nations. Then transfer to airport to fly back to home, where the tour ends.
